Fishing Report
5-5-08
Monday, April 28th, my good friend, Daniel Pitre,
from Corrigan came down to spend a couple of days fishing
we launched Captain Petes boat at Russells Bait and
Tackle, and headed West, stopping in the Diversion Channel. In
an hour and a half we boxed 16 solid trout, and Daniel caught
and released one 29 redfish. Daniel reports that he caught
the majority of the fish hes my friend!
Tuesday, April 29th, Daniel and I went out to the Diversion Channel,
and in one hour we boxed 20 trout, one redfish, and a flounder.
The weather was a perfect day for fishing we havent
had too many of those! Pete hooked a big trout and brought it
to the boat, unfortunately I knocked it off netting it
and I had to hear about that! We came in and cleaned our fish
Pete was wearing me out that guy loves to fish. Later
that day, Pete went back out East, and hooked up on a huge trout,
and lost it at the boat - by himself this time.
Wednesday, April 30th, Jim and Linde Pollok from the Austin area
came in for a half day of fishing. The weather had deteriorated
drastically from the day before, we boated out and fished the
same waters I had fished Monday and Tuesday, and caught a lot
of undersized trout, but only boxed one fish. They were nice people,
and I enjoyed fishing with them. It was obvious they are enjoying
their retirement, and that was refreshing to see.
Thursday and Friday were non-fishing days due to
weather.
Saturday, May 3rd, I fished Robert Burba and his
dad Bill from Austin, with Boston Swenson and his son Shane, and
their friend Kevin. We went to the Diversion Channel the
weather was good, but we knew it was supposed to change and were
hoping to get in at least a good half day of fishing. We boxed
eight trout, and then moved on into West Bay. Kevin caught a 24
drum, and the guys were catching undersized redfish. At about
11:00 the north winds came in about 30 mph so we ran the
north shoreline to Mad Island Cut and got into the Intracoastal
where we were protected, and everyone agreed to call it a day.
Sad to report as the weather came in, two boats capsized in East
Bay, and one fisherman drowned our thoughts and prayers
are with that family.
Sunday, May 4th, I fished Pat and Jody Johnson from
the San Marcus area, and their sister-in-law, Laura Cunningham.
This group had a lot of fun together, and it made an enjoyable
day for me. First we took a chance and ran to a lake East off
the Intracoastal, and Pat caught a 23 redfish. Jody hooked
up with a 4 alligator gar which added a little excitement
he circled the boat once and then made his exit. We left
there, and went to West Bay the wind was howling from the
Northeast we managed to box one flounder and one trout
before the trip was over. I hope they come back to fish again,
and bring Lauras husband he has to be a tough guy,
because she was a hoot!
Just a note I have a 2005 Hitchiker II 34
travel trailer that I rent out to some of my customers
it is a great stay for two fisherman. If you have the need, give
me a call.
If you are ready to head to Matagorda for some fishing,
call and lets book a date as a guy at the cleaning table
said to another guy the other day, I didnt catch a
lot of fish, but it was better than being at work! Amen!
